The International Federation of Denturists if proud to welcome our new country member, Portugal. We welcome the opportunity to meet with them.
We are confident that we will find many areas of commonality with our new members..
We are proud to help Portugal that does not have legislation allowing the profession of Denturism.
You can find the contact information for the president of the Associacao Portuguesa de Denturistas (APD) in our Contact List.
Following is what Alberto Carvalho, the APD President wrote to the IFD president, Tony Sarrapuchiello:
It is a pleasure to finally be at the head of a new member association of the IFD. I first started talking about this to Gerry Hansen around 2004, I wasn't a denturist yet. It has taken me some 14 years to get people interested, get a group together and start the Portuguese Denturist Association. When we finally got together a serious work group, it took us around 14 months to get organized, discuss the matters at hand, up to registering the association and finally joining the IFD.
I have a Facebook page called Denturism in Portugal-discussion group, started some 4 years ago, now with 800 odd members between dental technicians and I believe, curious dentists in Portugal.
So, we have an association, we know our country's reality, we are well motivated and more than willing to face whatever comes our way.
We come to the point where we hereby officially ask the IFD for help/guidance in lobbying to get this legalized in Portugal. Our association already has several qualified Portuguese denturists in the fold, from Australia (3), Canada (1), soon 1 from Ireland, these are the ones I have been able to trace from the internet, hopefully more may surface once the word gets out there is an association fighting for recognition. The rest of the members are dental technicians looking to get a qualification.
Please let us know what you think, we look forward to hearing from you.
In the interest of public health safety and welfare, competing professions have an obligation to make a significant contribution to the community by reinforcing and supporting each other's roles. Dentists care for and conserve natural teeth and prevent and treat diseases of the mouth. Denturists, on the other hand, have an explicitly defined role in terms of construction, fitting, patient aftercare and care of dentures. Let us move forward together, in a spirit of mutual respect, to champion the only real cause worth tackling, that of the dental health and well being of our communities worldwide.
