IFD President's Welcome
Since our Annual General Meeting with ZOOM in September 28, 2020, we continue to work for Denturists worldwide. We first began responding and adapting to COVID‑19, IFD has let care drive our decision‑making: care for our country members, care for our patients and care for our country. It's meant stepping up in new ways to support our members. And it meant taking the unprecedented step to think AGM online meeting.
The IFD Annual General Meeting is the highlight of our annual agenda, bringing together Denturists from across the globe. At our annual general meeting, we learned what is happening in each of our member countries. We are also trying to get feedback from the initiatives to gain recognition.
IFD continued to grow with the assistance of our sponsors: Vita, Candulor and Kulzer. IFD also obtained Savonia as sponsor for Denturism Study Programs. We are proud to have them joining us with their denturist program.
Education about how to care for the well-being of denture-patients was and still is the key to the Denturists profession. Unlike any other oral healthcare discipline, the main focus of the curricula in Denturism schools is to ensure that Denturist students acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills to provide high-quality removable prosthodontic services to fully and partially edentulous patients.
Board of Directors and Executive Committee
IFD would like to commend the contribution of the members of our Board of Directors in performing their mandate. IFD would like to thank them for the time and energy they dedicate for the betterment of Denturism in their country and worldwide. IFD Executive Committee is committed to promoting communication initiatives that bring Denturism profession significant in the head of Oral Health Care members worldwide.
Currently in South Africa, Duffy Malherbe works hard for possible recognition of Denturists, incessant work is the requirement for success!
John Rogan represents Australian Dental Prosthetics Association (ADPA) and worked with Di Woolcock and Jenine Bradburn to organize a great symposium in Brisbane, Australia in year 2019.
The IFD is registered on the EU Transparency Register, in section II as in-house lobbyists and as trade / business / professional association.
We are in a forum on Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE). This forum may open doors to communicate as regulated peers, serving together. In some of our progressive member countries, denturists are working together with dentists and other members of the Oral Health Care Team in the governmental regulatory board.
North America and Education Committee
Our new education Committee with IFD Canadian chairman provide support to young denturists on their path towards excellence especially by paying attention to the Denturist training. Our Education Committee will work on IFD Baseline Competencies document on our private Website.
As Denturists, we must encourage real communication, rather than imposing our opinion on our patients. Patients must be proud of their smile and we must help them maximize their quality of life with the appliance that we create in collaboration with the patient’s personalized input and accountable partnership. Ultimately, Denturists’ motivations in all their services and strategies are the best viable outcome for their patients. Denturists change lives by giving their patients new confidence, with a NEW SMILE that meets their expectations and personalities!
In my presidential mandate, I will share my passion for the recognition of the Denturist profession. I am also committed to promote initiatives that will bring the profession as an active participant in Oral Health Care Forums worldwide.
Let us move forward together, to champion well- being of denturists communities worldwide.
Urban Christen-Méndez, DD
